Brittania Smith

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department Investigators have arrested and charged Brittania Smith, age 24, of 904 Hillside Park, West Point with capital murder. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated the arrest stemmed from the death of her 2 month old infant son, Brinston Smith.  Scott said authorities were notified on Monday, April 7^th by the Mississippi Crime Lab that the child had died from a lethal dose of codeine and has been ruled a homicide. Smith is currently incarcerated at the Clay County Jail awaiting an arraignment in Clay County Justice Court. Scott stated the case is currently being prepared for the grand jury that is currently in session. The CCSO is being assisted in the investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
