On September 22, 2020 in Clay County Justice Court, Shermia Brownlee plead guilty to 9 counts of animal cruelty. The charges stemmed from the seizure of 9 dogs on September 17th at 2411 North Beasley Road, Pheba. Powell was ordered to pay fines to the Clay County Justice Court in the amount of $2,988.00 and restitution to the West Point/Clay County Animal Shelter in the amount of $1,692.00
Sheriff Eddie Scott expressed appreciation to the West Point/Clay County Animal Shelter, Neely Bryan and assistances in the rescue of the animals.
