A Clay County Sheriff's Office deputy was pursuing a suspect on Saturday, July 23rd when the individual attempted to outrun the law enforcement officer. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated the suspect, Carl Haughton, age 56 of West Point slammed on his brakes causing the deputy to hit the back of his truck. The deputy's Durango sustained heavy damage. No injuries were reported. Haughton was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Felony Fleeing of a LEO, No Insurance, Running a Red Light, Suspended Drivers License, Improper Lane Usage, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon, a Justice Court Bench Warrant and Malicious Mischief over $1,000.00. Haughton remains incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center with a $19,611.50 bond and a hold by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
