On February 26, 2014 Clay County Investigators charged two inmates housed at the Clay County Jail with possession of contraband in a correctional facility. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated that Miranda Brooks, age 21, and Mario Gill, age 35, are being charged after discovering cell phones in their possessions after a search was conducted by officers.
Scott stated that contraband (drugs, alcohol, cell phones, etc.) is a continual problem that all correctional facilities across the nation face on a daily basis. Mississippi Code 1972 Section 47-5-193 makes it unlawful for an offender to possess cell phones or cell phone components within a facility.
Scott stated that the investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Department at 662-494-2896.
