On May 22nd, the Clay County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on Hwy. 45 South in West Point that resulted in the arrest of a suspect on various narcotic charges. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated that Jirtavius Cox, age 30 of West Point was charged with Aggravated Trafficking, Felony Possession of Marijuana and Child Endangerment. Sheriff Scott stated that narcotic investigator recovered approximately 242 grams of suspected Fentanyl tablets and a felony amount of marijuana. Sheriff Scott said the child endangerment charge stemmed from an age 0-1-year-old infant in the car that was in close proximately of a firearm and narcotics. Sheriff Scott stated the child appeared to be in good condition due to being in close proximately of the deadly narcotics and was later released to family. Cox remains incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center with a bond set at $55,000.00.
