On Saturday, December 27th at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies with the Clay County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Waverly boat ramp on Waverly Mansion Road in response to a reported shooting. Upon arrival deputies discovered 2 individuals with apparent gunshot wounds at the location. One individual, identified as Kyle D. Richardson, age 47 of St. Louis, MO was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The second individual identified as Maksim A. Osburn, age 21 of Columbus, MS. was airlifted to NMMC - Tupelo with multiple gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition at a Memphis hospital. Clay County Sheriff' Eddie Scott stated based on witness statements and collected evidence at the scene, investigators believe Richardson approached Osburn in the parking lot of the boat landing where the altercation ensued. Investigators are currently working a robbery motive as personal belongings of Osburn was found on the remains of Richardson. Sheriff Scott stated that Richardson's remains along with one handgun were recovered in another area of the parking lot some distance from the spot of the initial altercation. Sheriff Scott stated an investigation into the background of Richardson is ongoing in determining his motive for being in this area. Richardson's body will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for an autopsy.
